About me and my experience:

I'm a medical doctor with an extensive hospital experience that settled down in a GP setting , I do minor surgery and try my best to stop unnecessary hospital visits by taking advantage of my secondary care experience and implementing in into the primary care.

I have worked as a medical doctor for over 14 years, the later of which has been based in General Practice. During the start of my career I spent many of my years working on the orthopaedic wards as a Sho and Reg in the UK. This was somewhat in stark contrast to my current work. There on the wards the emphasis was more on the physicality of medicine, what I could fix in the operating theatre.

After moving to Ireland and working in General practice I began to see the more gentle side to medicine. My work took me as far as the the Aran Islands and further on to many Rural and City practices. While working in all these very different practices I found one common theme, the importance of being able to Identify and effectively manage mental health conditions. Something that previously had not been presented to me but now greatly intrigued me.

I found myself devouring many books on the subject of mental health, psychology and psychotherapy, legislations, consulting colleagues as to what treatments work best from psychiatric point of view, and seeking out newer evidence based treatments. As my knowledge grew so did my consultation time length! But I found it a privilege to listen to my patients, and help them be heard, understood and to know there is help to be delivered. This all further cultivated my interest in psychology, CBT psychotherapy which I began to blend with my knowledge of psychiatry. Aspects I am keen to learn more about going forward.

I found this not just in the Irish Population, but also many of the minority communities. Hailing from Romania myself and being able to speak the language and understand many of the latin based languages I soon began to build a large patient population of Romanian/Moldovans, Brazilian and Spanish, many of which their first language isn't English. I found many patients form child/adolescence to the elderly coming to be tell me about their mental health problems, something of which had proven very difficult communicating prior and as such they had been going without treatment.

As we all know medicine is a constant learning process therefore i'm trying to become a better version of myself by doing the second professional dermatology diploma in UCD at the moment on top of my other professional dermatology, paediatric and mental health ones.
